Wbff chanel 45( now fox 45) in Baltimore use to have a similar thing going on. Saturday night would be the night for "Ghost Host Theatre" , and would similarly run old b& w horror/ b movies with a creepy ghost figure to introduce and make comments throughout. Setting was usually the inside of a creepy house basement lab or graveyard. During the day this ghost host was known as captain Chesapeake, a children's show introducing cartoons and other shows.

Also, for the benefit and information of you and others who view this, the words thereof were written by Francis Scott Key in the aftermath of the British attack on Baltimore's Fort McHenry during the War of 1812 when he saw the American flag still waving over the fort that morning and below are Mr. Key's words if you want to look them over while listening or sing along as you stand with your hand over your heart. O say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming, whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight, o'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

You say that the AV-8650 doesn’t have the external sync feature, but I see “EXT SYNC” on it. Does it work differently? I see the word “DEFEAT” as an option for it which doesn’t really make sense to me.

I remember Freebie and the Bean. I was a kid and we went to a drive-in to see it. Had a bucket of KFC and sat on the hood of the station wagon.

Ampex 456 audio tape is notorious for this. I remember a few years ago a guy I used to work with years ago gave me some UMatic (3/4 inch video cassettes for those that don't know what UMatic is) tapes to transfer with his own machine. Several of the Ampex tapes had the same problem. I didn't transfer the bad tapes and told him the situation. Most of the others were good. I can't tell you how many times the machine broke during the process as well, mostly belts breaking. Thank you for this.

Sorry but vhs was all we had. It wasnt any good . Youd be crazy to choose it over any other medium, sure you can admire the cases but thats all

I have that same PC case, what are you running in yours? I have i7-3820 running at 4.875GHz, 2333 MHz ram, fury-x gpu and adaptec raid card with 512MB cache with 4x samsung 850 pro ssd. I have recovered many reel to reel audio tapes but this stuff is next level. very cool. keep preserving history

My classroom showed this to me back in 2008-2010 show this to us and I couldn’t believe that after all those years. I was so happy. I miss those days. This was on the cusp of Generation X & Millennial aka (Generation Y. As much as it makes me sad and it makes me weep, I think our future generations deserve to see this.

You mentioned you would have to make new heads, a whole pile f them apparently. I'd be very interested in seeing this process.

The Achilles heel of these machines was their 1/4 inch tape format. It meant that instead of using the proper video tape, people often used cheaper - but much more abrasive - audio tape, which wore out the heads quicker. I gather it's therefore very difficult to find one with decent heads.

I bought a VR-7000 used in the early 70’ and it worked but the head was about worn out. I think I paid $75 for a “new” one and promptly sheared off the tip because I had the penetration out too far. Very sickening sound. I didn’t have the funds to try again, so I eventually sold it at a ham fest. Later the TV station where I worked purchased three Ampex VPR2 machines which were the type C format that was derived from the VR-7000 format. The VPR would attemp to play a 7000 tape, but the picture was upside down an no audio. The track layout was different between the two. BYW, one head was all that was needed, although the VPR’s had three: erase, record, and playback. This arrangement allowed for editing.

Those were the days when you could get to Disneyland in the morning, see the entire park, have a nice dinner in the Tiki restaurant beside the Enchanted Tiki Room, sit through A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow when you were tired, take the buckets over to Tomorrowland and get on the people movers! Then you could stroll around in the evening after most families with little ones had gone home and have a romantic ride on Pirates of the Caribbean! Oh to live a day at Disneyland in 1970 again!! I can hear the sternwheeler horn blowing in the evening too....MAGIC!!!

As a historian of Paramount Ranch, the studio's one time movie ranch in Agoura Hills, CA now a National Park, I would love to be able to see the complete special. There is hearsay information that the ranch is in the show. I would like to confirm whether it is via clips from old movies that shot at the ranch or if material for the special was shot at the ranch.

Are these master tapes, from a TV station or the older man recorded it at home??

Thanks for the video, I would of bought some deoxit off the back of your endorsement but it's around £30 a small can in the UK which is nearly three times more expensive than say wd-40.

Dean Martin's song Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime was a huge huge hit song in 1964 even beating out a Beatles song for the number one spot for awhile. Dean also acted in many movies, did concerts and his tv show was big and he was a top performer and a big draw in Las Vegas too especially in the 1960's at the Sands hotel main show room and Dean did comedy radio shows too he also was Frank Sinatra fine buddy.

Unsure what type of equipment you have, maybe a frame sync tbc in line as that video waveform looks very stable for a 5100 recording. Keep up the good work!
